TO THOSE BORN AFTER (2022)- During the early stages of the Covid 19 epidemic, I composed and printed To Those Who Come After, based on Bertholdt Brecht's 1938 poem, written while he was in exile from Nazi Germany. The poem explores the conflicting emotions held by those who survive tragedies.  I feel like this resonates in a particularly haunting way with current discourse on privilege and trauma, as well as the looming dangers of xenophobia, political repression and ecological doom that surround this particular moment. The original art for this project segues seamlessly from detailed cut paper depictions of revelers (based on life drawings of friends) to abstract drippy ink landscapes of clouds and crumbling sidewalks, with Brecht's text snaking throughout.
